Checking Into Margaritaville Times Square for a Staycation

I am usually not a fan of theme hotels, but ever since Margaritaville Times Square opened up, I wanted to search for my lost shaker of salt inside. My desires were finally quenched.

Taking a staycation is easy to do when you live in New York City.  There’s always a plethora to do at every minute of the day. Usually, my NYC staycations keep me away from Times Square, but Margaritaville called to me and I answered. Maybe it was Jimmy Buffett’s recent introduction into the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame. Maybe it was singing about margaritas for the past 40 years. Or maybe, and most likely, I just needed a taste of island life.

A taste of island life is exactly what you get after checking into Margaritaville Times Square. As you enter Margaritaville and head up the elevator, you’re greeted by Jimmy Buffett’s hits and bright colors. Honestly, I was hoping for a laid back vibe as well, but I guess that’s too much to ask for in a New York City hotel lobby.

The laid back vibe I was hoping for arrived when I opened the door to my room. Bright Key West colors greeted me and I exhaled as I walked towards the window that overlooked the busy streets below. I could have easily kicked back and rested for the remainder of the day, resting in the comfy bed while muffled street noise way below attempted to interrupt my slumber.

After a moment of relaxation, I exited my room to check out the rest of the hotel.

I looked over the restaurant, but it was a bit too busy to sit at the bar, so I opted for the rooftop bar for a cocktail. While there, I sipped delicious cocktails as the sun set over Manhattan. After a couple of cocktails, I ventured out into the Manhattan for some fun. When I returned, I hit up the restaurant bar because when you’re at Margaritaville, you’ve got to try a margarita. And it was delicious.

At the end of my day, I slid under the covers while the glow of New York City tried to infiltrate my room through the heavy curtains. Escaping New York City while in New York City was what my spirit needed. With Jimmy Buffett tunes on repeat in my head and a relaxed demeanor, I checked out and jumped back into my busy life.

Hopefully Margaritaville will call once again when summer rolls around, because the hotel pool looked quite relaxing. Next time, Jimmy. Next time.
