Cultural Diversity is on Display at Rise NY

Diversity is on display at RiseNY. This was my 2nd time exploring RiseNY. You can find my previous article here. This time, while walking through the museum, I was in full appreciation mode for New York’s diversity.

When people ask me what is my favorite thing about living in New York City, I always say the diversity. New York is the only place where you can find all types of people living together, eating together, working together, and moving forward. That and the food, which is also diversified.

Upon entering Rise NY, visitors first get a brief history lesson on New York City. The city’s diversity is focused on during a segment on immigration. How fortunate we all are for immigrants.

After the New York history lesson, we walked through areas of the museum dedicated to Alexander Hamilton and finance and into architecture. Along the way, many famous New Yorkers are shown. The history of TV and radio are focused on in one area, with TV film sets laid out to explore.

The diverse music found in New York City is also on shown. With rap music beginning in New York, there’s a fun interactive area with turn tables as legends such as the Notorious B.I.G., The Beastie Boys, and Run DMC are played over speakers. Costumes from the disco era, records of famous rock stars, and the clothes they wore are on display.

The main reason to visit Rise NY is the ride. There is a ride that takes you above the city, by way of a large screen, that makes you feel like you’re flying high above the greatest city in the world. During the ride, we weaved in and out of bridges, flew over Broadway, and flew around the most famous skyline in the world.

At the completion of visiting Rise NY, I was once again in full appreciation mode for being a New Yorker. 23 years ago; I arrived in New York City with big dreams and goals. Over time, the dreams and goals turned into living as a normal New Yorker. I stopped feeling like a tourist and was more at home. Paying New York City taxes and house payment probably helped that adjustment to feeling at home. Rise NY helps those of us New Yorkers to remember why we love this city so much. And Rise NY is great for tourists to get an idea of why New York City is second to none.
