You don’t need to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day to enjoy one of these Irish cocktails. There are 364 (or 365 for leap year) other days you can enjoy a good Irish whiskey cocktail.
Here are some of the best Irish cocktails you can make at home or order at your local Irish pub. If I left any out, feel free to add the cocktail in the comments.
Black and Gold
Ingredients
2 ounces of Irish Whiskey
½ ounce of Kahula
A dash of Angostura Bitters
Orange Peel
Ice
Directions:
Add ice and ingredients into a rocks glass. Stir and add an orange peel for garnish.
Black Velvet
Ingredients:
Guinness
Champagne
Directions:
Pour Guinness into a glass half-way.
Pour champagne over the back of a spoon into the glass.
Dublin Spider Highball
Ingredients:
1 ½ ounce of Irish Whiskey
Ginger ale
Lime
2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters
Ice
Directions:
Add ice to a cocktail shaker and squeeze half a lime into shaker.
Add whiskey and bitters to the shaker and shake.
Pour over ice in a glass.
Add ginger ale and mix.
Garnish with a lime wedge.
Irish Ale
Ingredients:
2 ounces of Irish Whiskey
Ginger Beer
Lime
Ice Cubes
Directions
Squeeze half a lime into a glass.
Pour Whiskey into the glass.
Fill the glass with ice.
Pour the ginger beer over the ice.
Stir and add a lime wedge for garnish.
Irish Coffee
Ingredients:
2 ounces of Irish Whiskey
1 tsp of brown sugar
Freshly brewed coffee
Heavy whipping cream
Directions:
Heat glass by adding hot water. After a couple of minutes, pour out.
Lightly whip heavy cream.
Add brown sugar to the glass.
Fill the glass ¾ with the hot coffee and stir.
Add Irish whiskey and stir.
Top the cocktail with the lightly whipped heavy cream.
Irish Espresso Martini
Ingredients:
1 1/3 ounce of Irish Whiskey
1 ounce of espresso
½ ounce of Kahlua
1/3 ounce of simple syrup
Ice cubes
Nutmeg
Directions:
Add all ingredients with ice into a cocktail shaker.
Shake and pour into a glass.
Sprinkle nutmeg on top of cocktail.
Irish Eyes
Ingredients:
I ounce of Irish Whiskey
¼ ounce of Bailey’s Irish Cream
¼ Ounce of Crème de Menthe
2 ounces of cream
1 maraschino cherry.
Directions:
Add Ice to a cocktail shaker along with whiskey, crème de menthe, Irish cream, and cream.
Shake and strain into a glass.
Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
Irish Fizz
Ingredients
2 ounces of Irish whiskey
1 ounce of lemon juice
½ ounce of orange Curacao
1 egg white.
Ice
Directions:
Add whiskey, lemon juice, curacao, egg white, and ice to a cocktail shaker and shake for 30 seconds.
Strain into a glass.
Irish Gold
Directions:
2 ounces of Irish Whiskey
½ ounce of peach schnapps.
Ginger ale
Orange juice
Lime
Directions:
Add whiskey, peach schnapps, a splash of orange juice, and ice into a cocktail shaker.
After shaking, strain into a glass.
Add ginger ale and stir.
Garnish with a lime wedge.
Irish Lemonade
Ingredients:
2 ounces of Irish whiskey
4 ounces of lemonade
Lime
Directions:
Add whiskey and lemonade into a glass with ice and stir.
Garnish with a lime wedge.
Irish Maid
2 ounces of Irish whiskey
½ ounce of Elderflower liqueur
¾ ounce of simple syrup
¾ ounce of simple syrup
Cucumber
Directions:
Muddle 2 cucumber slices into a cocktail shaker.
Add ice and the rest of the ingredients to the shaker.
Shake well.
Strain over ice in a glass.
Garnish with a cucumber wheel.
Irish Manhattan
Ingredients:
2 ounces of Irish Whiskey
½ ounce of sweet vermouth
Dash of angostura bitters
Dash of orange bitters
1 maraschino cherry
Directions:
Add ingredients with ice into a glass and stir.
Strain the cocktail into a chilled glass.
Add maraschino cherry for garnish.
Irish Margarita aka Shamrock Margarita
Ingredients:
2 ounces of Irish whiskey
1 ounce of Contreau
1 ounce of lime juice
3 drops of green food coloring
½ ounce of agave syrup
Kosher Salt
Lime
Directions:
Add whiskey, orange liqueur, lime juice, food coloring, and syrup into a cocktail shaker and shake.
Take a lime wedge and slide around the rim of the glass. Dump kosher salt on a plate and slide rim around on salt.
Strain ingredients over ice in the margarita glass.
Garnish with a lime wedge.
Irish Martini
Ingredients:
½ ounce of Irish whiskey
2 ounces of vodka
½ ounce of dry vermouth
Lime
Ice
Directions:
Add whiskey, vodka, vermouth, and ice to a cocktail shaker and shake.
Strain into a martini glass.
Garnish with a lime peel.
Options: For a creamer martini, add a ½ ounce of Baileys Irish Cream.
Irish Mojito
Ingredients:
2 ounces of Irish Whiskey
Fresh Mint
Lime
Ice
Simple Syrup
Ginger Beer
Directions:
Add a few leaves of mint, whiskey, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker and muddle.
Add ice and shake.
Add 2 mint leaves to glass and add ice.
Strain over ice.
Garnish with mint stem and lime wedge.
Irish Mudslide
Ingredients:
2 ounces of Irish whiskey
½ ounce of Kahlua
½ ounce of Baileys
Chocolate syrup
Ice
Whipped Cream
Directions:
Chill a glass.
Add whiskey, Kahlua, Baileys, and ice to a blender and mix.
Streak the glass with chocolate syrup.
Pour the mixture into the glass.
Garnish with a bit-sized candy bar.
Top with whipped cream.
Other options:
You don’t have to use a blender. You can also add over ice or with crushed ice.
If you want to go above and beyond, indulge your guests with a scoop of ice cream to the blender.
Irish Mule
Ingredients:
2 ounces of Irish whiskey
1 ounce of lime juice
Ginger beer
Lime wedge
Directions:
Add whiskey, ice, and lime juice to a cocktail shaker and shake.
Strain over ice in a glass or mule mug.
Add ginger beer and stir.
Garnish with a lime wedge.
Irish Negroni
Ingredients:
1 ½ ounce of Irish whiskey
1 ounce of sweet vermouth
1 ounce of Campari
Orange
Directions
Add whiskey, vermouth, Campari, and ice to a mixing glass.
Stir slowly and strain into a glass.
Add an orange peel for garnish.
Irish Old Fashioned
Ingredients:
2 ounces of Irish whiskey
¾ ounce of orange liqueur
2 dashes of angostura bitters
2 dashes of orange bitters
Orange
Directions:
Add whiskey, orange liqueur, bitters, and ice to a cocktail shaker and shake.
Strain into a glass over ice.
Add orange peel for garnish
Irish Slammer
Ingredients:
Guinness
1 ounce of Irish Whiskey
1 ounce of Baileys Irish Cream
Directions:
Pour Guinness into a glass and fill it half-way and let the head settle.
Add Baileys to a shot glass.
Pour whiskey slowly over a spoon on top of Baileys.
Drop the shot glass into the beer and drink.
Irish Sour
Ingredients:
2 ounces of Irish whiskey
¾ ounce of simple syrup
1 ounce of lemon juice
1 egg white
Lemon
Ice
Directions:
Add whiskey, simple syrup, egg white, lemon juice, and ice to cocktail shaker.
Shake for 30 seconds.
Pour over ice in a glass.
Add lemon wedge for garnish.
Irish Whiskey Ginger
Ingredients
2 ounces of Irish whiskey
Ginger ale
Lime
Directions:
Add ice, whiskey, and ginger ale to a tall glass and stir.
Garnish with a lime wedge.
Irish Whiskey Tonic
Ingredients:
2 ounces of Irish whiskey
Tonic water
Lemon
Directions:
Add Ice, whiskey, and tonic water to a tall glass and stir.
Garish with a lemon wedge
Nutty Irishman
Ingredients:
Hot Coffee
1 ounce of Irish whiskey
1 ounce of Baileys Irish Cream
1 ounce of Frangelico
Whipped Cream
Nutmeg
Directions:
Pour hot coffee into a mug.
Add whiskey, Irish cream, and hazelnut liqueur and stir.
Top off with whipped cream.
Sprinkle nutmeg on top.
Pickleback
1 shot of Irish Whiskey
1 shot of pickle juice
Directions:
Pour whiskey into a shot glass.
Pour pickle juice into a shot glass.
Drink whiskey and immediately chase with pickle juice.
