Deep within the heart of most children is a budding paleontologist. All 4 of my kids fell in love with Dinos at an early age and I let them watch Jurassic Park probably a little too soon. Regardless, seeking ways to help my kids learn about dinosaurs is a constant goal.
For parents looking to get their kids on the dino learning train, check out Field Station: Dinosaurs in Leonia, New Jersey. Combing education with entertainment, Field Station: Dinosaurs does a great job making sure little paleontologists have a better understanding of dinosaurs while having a great time.
Field Station: Dinosaurs is an outdoor theme park just outside of New York City. There are over 30 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs to gawk at. Kids (and parents) can pretend to sneak by a T-Rex, wave at a Brachiosaurus, or flee a pterodactyl. Kids also have the opportunity to dig for fossils, check out shows and learning sessions, and my kids’ favorite; jump on a bungee trampoline.
Here are some tips if you’re taking your kids to Field Station: Dinosaur.
- There is a place to buy food and snacks, but if you’re wanting to save money, bring along a packed lunch and snacks.
- There’s not a lot of cover, so check the weather before you go. We went on a hot day and there’s little shade while walking around.
- There’s a lot of walking over the 20 acres of the park, so wear proper footwear.
- The bungee jumping on the trampoline costs extra, so be prepared to shell out a few more bucks.
- Go slow. There’s a lot to see and experience. If you’re driving from New York City, take your time and enjoy. See everything and participate in the shows.

Check out Field Station: Dinosaurs website for events. New activities are always being added.
