Simple syrup is an ingredient that is used in a lot of cocktails. Unfortunately, none of the grocery stores around me carries it. Simple syrup isn’t something that many of us have in our pantry or refrigerator. Many of us don’t like to buy it because we don’t use it enough to purchase a full bottle. A great thing about the sweet ingredient is that it is super easy to make. Like, really super easy.
Here’s how you make simple syrup:
To make it, use equal parts sugar and water. For instance, if you want to a cup of simple syrup, add one cup of water to a saucepan and cook over medium heat. Add sugar and stir until it dissolves. Once dissolved, remove from the burner and set aside. Once the syrup cools, add it to a container. Don’t add while it’s hot or it might break the glass.
Keep simple syrup stored in the refrigerator and keep it for about 30 days.
Simple syrup also tastes great in iced coffee.
A fun thing to do is play around with flavored simple syrup. Try adding orange peels, vanilla, or some of your other favorite flavors.
