Before every family vacation, we have a conversation about what to do with our dog, Dobby. Do we put him in a kennel? Do we get a dog sitter? Or do we take him? Most of the time, he comes along. When we packed to go to DisneyWorld, we packed up his doggy bed, food, leash, and toys and headed toward the Magic Kingdom.
There are 4 hotel resorts at DisneyWorld that allow dogs.
* Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
* Disney’s Fort Wilderness
* Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
* Disney’s Yacht Club
For Art of Animation, Port Orleans, and the Yacht Club, only certain floors and rooms are dog-friendly. At Fort Wilderness, dogs can stay in the Cabins. Sorry cat lovers, you guys are left out. Cats are not permitted in any resorts.

We stayed at Disney’s Fort Wilderness cabins and it was the perfect place to vacation at Disney with a dog. We walked Dobby before visiting a park and came back around dinnertime to walk him again. After walking him, we went back to the park. Then we took him for a stroll when we returned to the cabin.
While we left him inside the cabin, we placed a door hanger that stated a dog occupied the room. This lets housekeeping know not to enter.
When we arrived at Fort Wilderness, they gave us a Pluto’s Welcome Kit, which includes a dog bowl and a mat. There are a plethora of cute things to buy for pets at Magic Kingdom. However, make sure you pack your pet’s favorite food. You do not want to buy dog food near Disney.
If you are not comfortable leaving your dog in the room or are staying at a resort that doesn’t allow dogs, you can drop off your pet at Best Friends Pet Care. Best Friends Pet Care is Disney’s theme park for pets. The place is enormous and offers fun things for pets to do while their owners are having the time of their lives. We were tempted to drop Dobby off, but decided Fort Wilderness was good enough (and less expensive). Best Friends Pet Care also allows cats.
If you’re thinking about taking a dog to DisneyWorld, there are important things to know.
-
- The dog must be up to date on their vaccinations with a written form/letter from a veterinarian.
- Only two dogs are permitted to stay in a room/cabin.
- Dogs must be well-behaved.
- Dogs need to be on a leash in all public areas.
- Dogs cannot use Disney transportation unless they are service dogs.
- Dogs are not allowed in restaurants, pools, water parks, or recreational areas.
- Having a dog at DisneyWorld costs $50 a night extra.
- Reservations need to be made in advance.
Taking a dog to Disney takes some work and it might be frustrating to have to run back to take care of the dog when you’re out having fun. It’s completely doable though. Make it part of the total experience and use the time as a Disney break to keep from overload.
