I came to snowboarding late in life. I’m not that good at it, but I still love doing it. Most snowboarders thrash their way down the mountain, annoying skiers as they go. Not me. I slowly go down the mountain, gently turning annoying skiers as I go. Just because I’m a slow snowboarder, doesn’t mean I don’t look the part or hang out with other snowboarders. This post is to not only provide gift ideas for snowboarders, but also my yearly wish list.
My Tips for Snowboard Beginners
If you have a snowboarder in your life, I’m sure you’ll be able to find something here. And if you are a snowboarder, give yourself a gift.
If you look up “Best coasts for snowboarding,” or “Best winter coats,” This coat from Burton’s will probably be on the list. The coat is expensive, but it’s an investment. Burton makes quality products that last a long time. The Burton’s Men’s AK 2L Gore-Tex Swash Jacket is made with waterproof GORE-TEX, and has all the necessities to keep one warm on the mountain.
686 Products make great coats. I own one. They are slightly cheaper than Burton, but still great quality. This coat can keep you warm and dry all year long. The fabric woven is stretchy and the coat comes with taped seems and zippers that keep the weather on the outside. The hood also goes well with a helmet.
The Volcom 3D Stretch GORE-TEX fabric provides waterproofing and style. The coat also is breathable, which is nice for when the coat comes off. The 3D stretch helps keep you mobile on the slopes. The zippered pockets give the wearer a lot of storage space.
The Helly Hansen Women’s Alphelia LIFEALOFT Ski Jacket is a great all-around ski and snowboard jacket. The best part of this jacket is the LifeALoft puffer insulation that will keep you warm on the slopes. The polyester shell helps the wearer stay dry.
Protective padded shorts don’t just make your backside bootlicous, but also helps ease the impact from hitting the snow. I so badly wish I had these padded shorts when I first started snowboarding. I wear them now and my old hips are thankful.
Weierya ski and snowboard socks are a must on the slopes. The long length is great because they go past the snowboard boots and the merino wool helps keep your feet warm. I always say to new snowboarders to stock up on socks. You never want to wear an already used pair on the slopes. That smell is nasty.
Much like a snowboarding coat, a good winter pant is an important investment. You don’t want a rip on the slopes, nor do you want pants that don’t insulate or keep you dry. The Columbia Snow Men’s Pant helps do both of those things. Columbia is a brand that I’ve been using throughout my snowboarding years.
I’m not much of a bib wearer, but I do like these ski and snowboard bibs from FlyLow. Flylow makes quality products for snow enthusiasts. They will help keep you dry and warm.
When it comes to snowboarding coats and pants, I like to stick to the brands that I know. Columbia is one of my go-to brands. Columbia’s Bugaboo Omni-heat snowpant are pricey, but do a great job in keeping your legs warm and dry. Another great investment.

There’s a reason why almost every snowboard you rent is a Burton. Burton is one of the to snowboard companies if not THE top. These Burton Cartographer Boards are a nice buy, but you can’t go wrong with any Burton board.

Boarders can be hard on boots. A bad or mediocre boot can ruin a time on the slopes. These Burton Swath Step On Snowboard Boots are great boots that could last for years. My ankles can take a beating in boots, but Burton’s quality helps keep my ankles and feet steady.
See a trend in the gift guide? Burton is where I always look first for snowboard ideas. I obviously have never worn a Burton women’s boot, but the reviews for these Burton Limelight BOA Women’s Snowboard Boots are great.
Burton makes great Snowboard Boots for Kids. My youngest son is the only other snowboarder in my house, and he’s much better than me. The right footing is important for snowboard beginners
A good snowboard needs a good bag. Don’t carry around your new board from place to place. And if you’re flying in a plane, you need a good bag to check. These roller Snowboarding bags from Burton are a great addition to your snowboarding gear.
A good beanie is a necessity for me when on a winter vacation. And to be honest, not just to keep my head warm, but to look good. My knitted hat keeps me warm when I’m walking around in the frigid cold, but when I’m at the bar or walking inside somewhere, I go with a beanie. These Burton Beanies are a nice touch and they come in a 3-pack.
We’ve all been there. You are cozy in your room after a long day on the slopes, when you need to run out to your car. Or, you want to hit the bar in the lodge, but your dogs are barking (That’s feet lingo). You want to slip something warm on your feet. These North Face Men’s Thermoball Traction Booties are a perfect gift for those who spend winter vacations in the snow.
A warm and durable slipper is a luxury during a winter vacation. These North Face Women’s Thermoball Insulated Traction Booties are a perfect gift for snow bunnies.
North Face is another great company that always come through for me in helping face the outdoors.
This RaceWax Elite Snowboarding Tuning Kit is a great gift for a new snowboarder. Keeping a snowboard tuned up is important to work properly. Tuning and repairing is essential.
A boot dryer is great for snowboarding boots, ski boots, and hiking boots. The DryGuy Travel DX Boot Dryer doesn’t take up much bag space.
This dryer is great because it will dry and warm up boots and gloves. Who doesn’t hate the feeling of sticking your hands in wet gloves? This Boot and Glove dryer from DryGuy could’ve saved me from chapped hands on many days.
Am I seriously including a bottle of Fireball in a gift guide for snowboarders? You bet! A little whiskey hug is nice to take the edge of a frozen body. A little shot here and there is a nice warmer. It also helps you loosen for when you hit that snow extra hard.
Stomp
pads help get more traction on your boots. Also helps lessen the amount of snow caked on your boots when you want to go indoors.
Phoozy Apollo Thermal Phone Pouch helps keep your phone from freezing and extends battery life. We’ve all been there, you’re on top of a mountain with a gorgeous view and you need to share a selfie. Unfortunately, your batter is dead. Or you could have a real problem and need to locate your kids, but your dead phone is no help. More and more coats provide a pocket for your phone, but you should still protect it from the weather.
The GOODaaa Power Bank Wireless Charger isn’t just great for a snowboarding and ski trip, it’s great for any trip. It can also be used as a solar charger, which is great during the warmer months when camping. Since it’s a wireless charger, you don’t need to worry about bringing a chord along wile on the mountain. You can plop your phone on the charger while hanging out in the lodge.
It’s all about the base layer. Thermajohn is one of the go to base layers on a budget. The fleece base layers get me through my winters. Some people only take one or two base layers with them on a snowboard trip or ski trip. That’s gross. No way am I going to wear a base layer more than one day. That’s some nasty sweaty stuff. Luckily, base layers can roll up easy to not take up much space.
Thermajohn makes great women’s base layers too. There are more expensive pairs and there are cheaper pairs. Thermajohn is great for what you pay for. Buy in bulk if you can.
Helmets are one thing that I would not buy online. Some fit different than others. That being said, if you’re the kind that only buys online, Oakley and Smith Mission are the helmets that I usually go with for myself and my family.
Same for goggles. Some goggles fit differently than others. I have only worn Oakley goggles.
When buying goggles, check to see if they are fog resistant. If you’re looking for anti-fogging spray for your goggles, click here.
If you’ve got a big group hitting the slopes, walkie talkies are a nice thing to take with you. They’re easy to communicate with one another and let’s face it, speaking into a walkie talkie is fun.
If you got a lot of money to spend on ways to keep warm and flexible while on the mountain, Burton’s AK Clutch GORE-TEX Snowboard Gloves is the way to go. You can find them in Mens and Womens.
If mittens are more your thing, check out these Burton mittens for men and women.
If you really want some major bonus points when buying gifts for snowboarders and skiiers, A GoPro Hero 12 is a great one. I just bought one for myself and it’s a ton of fun. I can’t want to share my falls and spills. GoPros are amazing cameras and can do just about everything a major video camera can do. Image and video quality is outstanding. Anyone can be an adventure filmmaker these days.
Got a snowboarder that loves to rep snowboarders even when their not on the board? These snowboarding Team USA t-shirts are nice gift. Also available in long sleeve.
These gorgeous ski lift rocks’ glasses are a nice gift for the snowboarder and skier that is also a whiskey and cocktail lover.
If beer glasses are more your thing/their thing, these beautiful pint glasses are a great gift.
Other gift ideas Balaclavas, One-Time Use Hand Warmers, Rechargeable Hand Warmers, Neck Gaiter, Avalanche Beacon, Apple Air Tags, Carhartt Fleece 2-in-1 hat, Ice Cleats.
