I am not technologically savvy, but I have kids that are. And I want them to further their understanding of how computers work and how to operate them. There isn’t a better way for kids to understand technology than to build their own computer.
My very smart 5-year-old loves doing puzzles with me and building things. We set time aside one afternoon to build our own Piper Computer. The Piper Computer Kit is an easy to assemble home computer that comes with a Minecraft like game involving a broken robot that needs to save the world. Once the computer is assembled, kids can begin playing the game.
The game is a lot of fun, but the experience of putting the computer kit together is what makes this a great gift. We had so much fun putting the kit together and screwing in the pieces. It took us about 45 minutes to assemble and my son figured the game out in under 5 minutes. The kit is designed for ages 8-12, but as you can see, my 5-year-old had a great time putting it together.
*Disclaimer: I received a Piper Computer Kit for review. The opinions are my own.
What a great idea!
