My inspiration for Movember

MovemberAccording to, one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lives and about 1 in 36 will die from it. This year, for the second year in a row, I’m growing a mustache as part of Movember, which calls on men to grow mustaches to raise awareness and money for cancer research.  Growing a mustache will be a lot of fun, but for me it’s a lot more than that. My step-dad was one of those that died this year from prostate cancer. Jim Higley (also known as Bobblehead Dad), a cancer survivor, said it best on a Life of Dad chat, “It’s not about the mustache, but about the money and the awareness.” I share his sentiment.

I have no shame when it comes to my public appearance, so I’m ready to have a lot of fun creating a variety of styles for my mustache. But I’m not doing it just for the fun – I’m doing it for my step-dad. I’m doing it for me. And I’m doing it for my children. The fun is just an added bonus.
