Legends Museum in Madrid is a Football/Soccer/Futbol Lover’s Dream

As my son and I approached Legends: The Home of Football, my expectations had dropped. I had high hopes for visiting Legends since my son and I are huge soccer fans and we were in Madrid because my son was playing in Madrid for the week. I had envisioned a massive museum before going and I wondered if the reviews and photos I had seen were not an accurate representation of the museum.

We waited in the museum store before our turn and I had an inner debate if I would drop a lot of Euros on the uniforms that we perused. Our time began, and we walked out of the store and into the museum. My hopes for the museum were restored.

As we walked around the museum, a timeline of the world’s greatest sport unfolded before us. Jerseys, shoes, shin guards, paraphernalia, and many other objects that belonged to soccer’s elites were studied. Every time we saw a bloodstain or hole in a jersey, my son got a little excited about the moments that caused them.

Legends is like a maze, and we wound through the building, marveling at each lit-up location. At one point, I caught my son dreaming. I could read his expression while looking at a jersey worn by Diego Maradona. I said nothing to interrupt his moment, nor did I snap a photo. I allowed the moment to be just that: a moment alone between a legend and a fan.

My son’s teammates and their fathers were occasionally found having their own marveling moments. While my son was looking at a jersey, one of the younger players walked up to him and said, “Is this where your kit will be?” My son didn’t reply, and if he would’ve looked at me, he would’ve seen a big, proud smile across my face. My son doesn’t take compliments well, so he simply nodded and probably wished internally that the comment hadn’t been said.

Legends was everything I had hoped it would be and more. I would’ve enjoyed a walk through even if I had been alone, but being with my son made it extra special. Our week was full of soccer, and seeing the efforts of so many greats paying off was inspiring to my son and his teammates.

If you are a football/soccer/futbol fan, a visit to Legends in Madrid is a must-stop.
