Celebrate Doctor’s Day with me, National Today, and Top Agency
When my oldest was a few months old, he developed a cough and my wife and I became worried. He was our first child and we didn’t have a lot of experience to go on when it came to taking care of an infant. We swaddled him up and took him to his pediatrician. The pediatrician examined our son and smiled at us. He sat down on the examining table and said, “Well, your son has a cold.” Then he laughed and continued, “Most of the time, you won’t need to come in and see me. Call us and we’ll let you know if you should come in or not.” Then he shared with us that most parents worry at the first runny nose or cough and think the worst. Three kids later, we question every ache and pain whether it’s worth a visit to the doctor or not.
I appreciate the care we received from our pediatrician and I’m not talking just about the medical care he gave our son. The doctor was kind and walked us through what we would encounter and when to visit the doctor. 15 years later and an additional 3 kids, we are still receiving expert care from the doctor. He walks us through immunizations, viruses, injuries, and check-ups.
I’m also lucky to have an amazing physician that takes care of my medical needs with precision and kindness. I’ve had migraines since I was 10 years old and have seen many doctors over the years. My family practitioner is fantastic. He understands migraines, which keeps me from having to describe what level my headache is at. He’ll take my call at all times and will provide me with medication refills without a visit.
During this time, I believe it’s important for us to show our doctors the appreciation they deserve. They are risking their lives during the current pandemic to provide us with medical care, even when supplies are low. They must work long hours and make difficult decisions. Most of the time, when you see a doctor, it isn’t for a good reason. I can’t imagine what it must be like to see one suffering person after another. On March 30th, share your appreciation for doctors on social media with the hashtags #DoctorsDay #ThankYouDoctor and #ThankYouDoc
