Every summer since I became a dad, I have taken advantage of Regal Cinema’s Summer Movie Express. For the price of one dollar a person, you can sit inside an air-conditioned building. It doesn’t matter to me what movie is playing as long as I can soak in a few minutes of cool air on someone else’s electric bill. That cooling-off sounds pretty good. So does a change of scenery.
The movie theaters do a great job of making the experience easy for parents too. The sound isn’t as loud as normal and they keep the lights dim in some areas of the theater. If you’re expecting a nice quiet morning at the movies, you’d better stay home. The audience is full of kids talking, babies crying, and parents yelling, “Get back here!” My family fits right in.
The price of the summer movies have gone up and down over the years. I’ve seen them from free to $2. This summer, the movies are back down to $1.
