From July 8, 2016 through July 16, 12 dad bloggers will hike along Hadrian’s Wall in Northern England to raise money for Camp Kesem, in honor of fellow dad blogger Oren Miller. Oren passed away after a battle with cancer last year.
Camp Kesem offers over 80 free summer camps nationwide for children who have been impacted by a parent’s cancer. The goal of the hike is to raise enough money to start a chapter on the campus at the University of Maryland, near Oren’s home.
Oren Miller’s blog, bloggerfather.com, chronicled his life as a stay-at-home dad. He also used his voice to take on negative ads that featured old stereotypes and pushed for fathers to be included in parental marketing. And he was also able to pull off an extraordinary feat; he brought together men from all races, backgrounds, religions, and economic status through the common bond of being a dad. The dad blogging community is over a thousand members strong now and many of us know each other’s name, face, and blog because Oren connected us. To say the dad blogging community owes a lot to Oren would be a huge understatement. Raising money for Camp Kesem is the least that we can do to celebrate our friend.
100 % of the money donated will go to Camp Kesem. The 12 dad bloggers have covered all of their own expenses.
