To Trump Voters, This is Why We’re Mad

Like half the population, I’m grieving. I wish I could point to election interference or some other conspiracy why Trump won the 2024 election. But I can’t. The truth is, Donald Trump won the presidency fair and square. That’s even more of a harder pill to swallow. The reason is, more than half of Americans looked at Trump and said, “That’s my guy.”

To those celebrating Trump’s win, I want you to know why we’re mad.

When Bush beat Gore, I didn’t like it, but I agreed to disagree. When Bush beat Kerry, I agreed to disagree. But not with Trump. You voted for a person who autographs Bibles after saying, “I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. … Grab ‘em by the pussy. You can do anything.” You voted for a person with 34 felony convictions of falsifying business records. You voted for a person who was found guilty of sexual abuse. You voted for a person who cheated on his wife with a porn star. In fact, he cheated on all of his wives. You voted for a person who wants to round up people and send them back to the country of their birth, which is the opposite of what the Bible says about how you are to treat immigrants. You voted for a person who had a racial discrimination case brought against him for refusing to rent to black people.

Growing up in the church, I was scared to death of an antichrist figure. I had many nightmares about him, but I found solace in believing that Christians could see through the lies of an antichrist. I was wrong. Turns out, they vote for them, buy their Bibles, wear their names on their brow, and fly their flags.

That sound you hear isn’t thunderous applause, its thousands and thousands of footsteps fleeing the church because you voted for a lying, racist, homophobic, womanizer who signs Bibles.

We had an opportunity to agree to disagree. There were other Republicans running to be at the top of the GOP ticket. People who I disagree with on almost every level, but I would have gotten over it. I would’ve agreed to disagree.

Instead, the man responsible for allowing an attempted coup on January 6th, is now heading into the office his followers tried to overthrow. I get that many Maga folks say Trump had nothing to do with it, but that’s not true. He not only fueled the fire that raged into the Capital, but he glorified them during his speeches and has recently stated he will pardon those arrested.

If none of those things mentioned above had happened, I think there would be room for us to agree to disagree. You might say, “He’s a successful businessman.” I would respond, “I don’t think 8 bankruptcies are successful.” In fact, 16 Nobel Prize-winning economists said Trump’s business plan is bad and can “stoke” inflation.

I talk often about how we “Christians” are called to love our neighbors. Nobody that listens to Trump speak can say that he loves his neighbors. And nobody can honestly say he loves his enemies.

I hope I’m wrong about what is about to happen. But if those that disagree with him are put in jail, I’m going to blame the Christian Right. When he rounds up immigrants to send them off, I’m going to blame the Christian Right. When he removes aid to Ukraine and Putin rolls over the country, I’ll blame Republicans.

Many Christians will say they voted for Trump because of abortion, but I don’t buy that argument. The same people in the “Right to Life” movement also look the other way when children are slaughtered in schools, gripping tightly to their 2nd Amendment Right. The same people want to turn away human beings fleeing poverty, gang violence, and hoping for a better life.

I’m tempted to delete all my social media accounts. Unfortunately, I need social media for my business. The reason I want to delete my accounts, is because I don’t want to see people I love and respect glorify Trump’s win.

I’m ashamed at what the Church is today and my faith is shaken. In order for the church to move forward, a revival of love needs to occur. My faith isn’t shaken regarding Jesus and his teachings. It’s his people that are the problem. The moral majority is dead and Trumpism has taken its place.

  1. AMEN. Standing in solidarity with you as a fellow Christian, friend. Thanks for bravely speaking the truth of this unbelievable situation we find ourselves in due to the Christian Nationalism I grew up immersed in but have long since distanced myself (ourselves) from (20 years and counting).

  2. I believe Mark Twain said, “get your facts first. Then you can distort them as you please. Sums up Strumpet.

  3. Thanks Jason, for being brave enough to say what many are thinking. For the first time in my life, I feel that we are part of the minority. I’m reminded in II Kings 6: 15-17, of Elisha and his servant upon the mountain before the impending battle with the Syrians. Elisha prayed that the eyes of the fearful servant be opened; the servant saw the mountain was full of invisible horses and chariots of fire of the LORD. Seeing into the invisible spirit realm is a key to victorius praying. Discerning spiritual issues from God’s perspective rather than man’s. We are not fearful, for the battle is the Lord’s. We fight the battle on our knees and when God gives opportunity, may we be brave to declare His will.
