A Speedboat Experience on the Thames is the Perfect Way to Start a London Vacation

Whenever my kids and I travel to Europe, we always start off the trip with something exciting and fun. Doing so helps us with the change of time zone and get over any jetlag that we might have. This led to our family tradition when we visit London.

My 10-year-old daughter and I landed in London at 11:45 AM. We were supposed to land at 8:30 AM, but our flight was delayed. I had a 1:00 PM reservation in place for us at the Thames RIB Experience. I have learned that when visiting London, it’s best to start off the trip with a speedboat tour of the Thames River. I hadn’t used RIB yet, but the reviews were great and we were looking forward to the tour. Unfortunately, we missed our appointment because of the delay. I booked an experience for later in the day and asked the airline to reimburse me for missing the appointment, which they did.

We walked around London for a bit, trying to wake up. We downed some ice cream and went back to our hotel to kill some time. Then, we headed to our 6:00 PM appointment time and were soon jet-setting down the Thames.

Taking a speedboat on the Thames gives you the adrenaline rush you need to get your sleep pattern on schedule. Also, you get gorgeous views while rocketing on the river. The boat goes slowly past the more touristy spots, but then speeds up once past the last bridge. My daughter was laughing, and all smiles the entire time.

Speeding on the Thames was a great way to start our trip. Knocking out a fun experience on the first day in London set the tone for the rest of the trip. It also helped us get through the tired moments without napping and go to bed at a reasonable time.

If you’re going to London from across the pond, I highly recommend booking a speedboat tour. It is definitely a crowd-pleaser.
