One of my favorite gift ideas this year is from Kiwi Crate, a product from Highlights. Too often my kids get toys that they play with for a short period of time, but then set aside never to touch them again. Their excitement for a toy vanishes. And sometimes my kids get “educational” toys or crafts that they just aren’t that interested in. But Koala Crate is a different story – each month Koala Crate sends a new box (crate) filled with fun activities and crafts for the kids.
Koala offers four options to choose from: Koala Crate, Kiwi Crate, Tinker Crate, and Doodle Crate.
Koala Crate is designed for ages 3-4, although my 2.5 year old enjoyed playing with the crate as well. The Koala Crate includes items to help the child create and learn; such as paints, blocks, coloring books, and games.
Kiwi Crate provides children ages 4-8 with creative ways to learn and to create, including ideas for exploring and experimenting. Our windows are filled with a stained glass project that my daughter enjoyed creating.
Tinker Crate engages children ages 9-14 in activities that cover technology, science, and engineering. Of course, all the activities are fun and creative. My son pieced together a catapult that was included in a crate that he now uses during battles with his Star Wars action figures.
The Doodle Crate is a more advanced creative kit for kids ages 9-16. Painting techniques and candle making are just two of the activities included in the crates.
As a homeschooling parent, I welcome the idea of receiving a new box of ideas every month. But even if I wasn’t a homeschool dad, I would still love the Koala Crate’s products since it challenges kids with fun ways to learn and unlocks new creative spirits.
