We’re not huge gamers in my house and we’re pretty selective about what games we buy. So any game we do buy has to (i) keep the kids’ attention for more than a day, (ii) be something the whole family wants to play, and (iii) be generally appropriate across age lines. I demoed the Disney Infinity a few times and I knew it would be a big hit at my house. My kids were excited when I opened up a box that included Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes for PS4. The starter pack comes with playset pieces for Thor, Black Widow, and Iron Man.
For those who are unfamiliar with the Disney Infinity Series, it consists of the game, playset pieces, and an Infinity Base. Placing the pieces on the base will activate the character in the game, and pieces can be swapped out for different gaming experiences. The game pieces can also be played with away from the video game.
The story for Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes revolves around Loki, Thor’s brother, who has invaded New York City and brought a bunch of frost giants with him. Obviously, the Avengers must stop Loki and his frosty men. Along the way you can gain points and unlock more advanced powers in the skill tree section. My kids and I enjoy playing the game, but it would have been nice to explore NYC a little bit more. Even though we live in the Big Apple, we’re always looking for secret spots and I could have used some tips.
For my kids, the best part of the game is the Toy Box area, an open world arena. This is where Disney characters and the Marvel Super heroes can interact and explore. My son has created a lavish tree house and my daughter likes to walk around the world and play little side games.
The game is a lot of fun and I am sure Disney has a lot more in store for the always advancing Infinity world. The game met all three criteria for being a keeper in our house and I can attest that it is a fun way to play video games side by side with your kids.
