Visiting Disney World During Covid

Before our family vacation to Disney World, I was having second thoughts about our decision. I wasn’t sure if the trip would be as magical as a trip to Disney in a non-Covid year. Paying a lot of money to wear a mask most of the day did not sound like a way to spend a vacation. Since my oldest is entering his senior year of high school and my youngest is growing up too quickly, I put aside my fears and made room for hope.

Here are some important things to know before going to Walt Disney World:

Wearing masks is strictly enforced in the parks and resorts. Occasionally, my daughter’s mask would slip below her nose and when it happened, a Disney Cast Member would quickly tell her to pull it up. There were a few times I walked indoors while putting my mask on and an employee would caution me to put the mask on quickly. There are also hand sanitizer stations scattered throughout the park.

We may not have had the character interactions that we wanted, but we still had a wonderful time. We are used to wearing masks and it didn’t bother us to go on rides or wait indoors with masks on. It wasn’t that big of a deal and didn’t impede our vacation. Most of the time, we didn’t realize we were wearing masks while on rides.

I’m thankful for the trip and the wonderful memories we made. Wearing masks and being socially distant isn’t a fun aspect of our lives these days, but it doesn’t keep us from having fun. If you’re thinking about a trip to Disney World, consider the precautions, but it won’t ruin your vacation.
