I’ve visited London several times and love the city. I couldn’t wait to show my daughter around. At this point in the trip, she would have been fine if I had suggested we stay in the hotel for four days. The trip had taken a toll on her. And honestly, it had taken a toll on me.
As tempting as it was, I wasn’t about to sit in a hotel all day and order room service. You don’t go to London and not visit the legendary sites. I realized, though, there was no way I was going to be able to drag my daughter around to see everything, even if we took the Tube.
The big tourist open-air buses can get a bad rap from elitist travelers, but I think they are a great to get to know a city. If a city were a film, the Tootbus is a trailer. Knowing my daughter was exhausted, we climbed onto a Tootbus to get an overview of London.
Since we were only spending 4 days in London, we couldn’t see everything. I love London and wanted my daughter to see things we would miss, as well as get an understanding of where everything is located. It’s great to take the Toots when you start a vacation; that way you can get an idea of how far things are from one another.
Riding the Tootbus gives tourists the freedom to see what they want to see. Jumping off at a station near a desired location and jumping back on when over is a fun way to see the city. And there’s a tour for everyone. Visitors can take tours focused on history, modern landmarks, art, or evening lights.
Another aspect of riding the Tootbus that I liked is that I could get a different perspective for taking photos. I love street photography, but stopping in the middle of the road isn’t advisable. While on Tootbus, you can get that shot.
When taking the Tootbus, check the weather. On the day we chose the Tootbus, it rained off and on. We moved back and forth from riding on the open deck to seeking shelter inside. Either way, it was a fun way to get to know London.
If you’ve got tired travelers in your group, look into taking the Tootbus. It’s a slower and more relaxed way of seeing a city.
