According to cancer.org, one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point in their lives and about 1 in 36 will die from it. This year, for the second year in a row, I’m growing a mustache as part of Movember, which calls on men to grow mustaches to raise awareness and money for cancer research. Growing a mustache will be a lot of fun, but for me it’s a lot more than that. My step-dad was one of those that died this year from prostate cancer. Jim Higley (also known as Bobblehead Dad), a cancer survivor, said it best on a Life of Dad chat, “It’s not about the mustache, but about the money and the awareness.” I share his sentiment.
I have no shame when it comes to my public appearance, so I’m ready to have a lot of fun creating a variety of styles for my mustache. But I’m not doing it just for the fun – I’m doing it for my step-dad. I’m doing it for me. And I’m doing it for my children. The fun is just an added bonus.

I’m sorry for your loss, Jason.
And good luck with the mustache. I’m just about mentally ready to do this…
