LeonardoTo coincide with the release of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, Playmates Toys released some great new action figures. I had the opportunity to review the 4 inch action figures and an 11-inch collectible action figure.

I’ve played with my share of action figures over the years (I mean, I’ve watched my kids play with action figures), and for me, what makes a great action figure are the details that go into the design and the toy’s durability. My kids are rough and a poorly made action figure can lose a hand or a foot within the first hour of play.

But not these turtles. They can withstand an intense battle and stick around to play another day. My two year old loves to play with the larger 11-inch collectible and has dropped it or banged it around the house many times. So far the toy still looks as good as it did in the package.

The 4-inch figures are a little bigger than most other action figures, which makes interaction with other toys challenging. It’s not impossible for imaginative kids, though. After all, a kid that is playing with a turtle that is a ninja should be able to craft an explanation for why the turtle towers over other action figures.

What I really love about the Playmates TMNT action figures is the design. The turtles are not cookie cutter and each turtle has a different size and look. Unlike other TMNT action figures, the figures are not interchangeable except for different colored masks and weapons. And they closely adhere to the look of the turtles in the movie.

If your children loved the movie, then these action figures would make a good addition to the toy box.
