The only thing I dislike about summer is the heat. Other than that, I love this time of year. Instead of sweating it up inside with my kids or running up a high electric bill, I prefer to try and find ways to keep the family cool somewhere outside of the home. Thankfully, several years ago, I struck up a conversation with a parent at a playground on ways to cool off and they told me about the free movies at the local theater. I later found out that Regal Cinemas offers this program throughout the country.
While the movies are no longer free, at $1.00, it’s still the best bargain in town. Only a buck for a movie and air conditioning! The movie theaters do a great job at making the experience easy on parents too. The sound isn’t as loud as normal and they keep the lights dim in some areas of the theater. If you’re expecting a nice quiet morning at the movies, you’d better stay home. The audience is full of kids talking, babies crying, and parents yelling, “Get back here!” My family fits right in.
The theater is full of temptations to spend money on popcorn and junk food, so I advise packing your own snacks and drinks. This will help keep your spending to a minimum this summer. Usually theaters ask people to not bring in food, but they don’t mind during the summer movie express.
It begins July 5th and runs for 9 weeks. The movies start at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Click here in order to find a participating movie theater near you.
